Photographing gives me a reason for being out and about and exploring new places. When I don't shoot for three or four days, I start feeling restless. No matter what the occasion I almost always carry a camera with me.

My first project was the Mill Creek Valley of Cincinnati. After realizing I had several images of this area, I decided to define it as a project. The images in the Mill Creek Catalogue are a result of wandering around and participating in events in the area for about five years. My goal has been to take this perhaps rather ordinary urban area and present it in an interesting fashion. As I am now living in El Cerrito, California, I will have very little opportunity to continue this project.

Currently I am doing mostly urban photography in the Bay Area and especially in San Francisco. I am particularly drawn to the street art, which has become another project. This is a constantly evolving scene with new work appearing on a daily basis. Much of the work is very creative while other work is bland and uninspired. Normally I am very sympathetic to the sentiments expressed, which are an alternate to the barrage of images and opinions expressed in the mainstream media.

Specific projects aside, I always try to be open to the unexpected and to expand my concept what can constitute a good photograph.
